Tasting Notes > Wines > Oyster Bay (New Zealand)

Internationally-recognised for producing "elegant, assertive wines with glorious fruit flavours", Oyster Bay is also a winemaker with great viticultural vision. It was Oyster Bay that had the foresight, over two decades ago, to recognise the enormous wine-growing potential that lay beneath the stony, alluvial soils of a marginal sheep farming district in New Zealand's Hawkes Bay. Today that region is producing New Zealand's finest merlots.

Merlot

"Oyster Bay has combined the bright berry/cherry fruit for which Merlot is known with a fine tannin structure that makes it an ideal companion for a variety of meat and pasta dishes. My note: lovely, rich, dare I say unctuous? New Zealand excels at pinot noir (and of course Sauvignon Blanc), but I think their merlots are lovely too: elegant and balanced. Score: 89.5/100." - Natilie Maclean, Canada, August 2008.

Delicious on its own or with lamb, meat or pasta dishes.
